When doing a little research for an article, this gem was uncovered. In the 2014 !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , it reports there are 50,000 taxi drivers. Out of that 50,000, approximately .25% are over 80 years old. In other words, there are over 100 drivers that could have served in the Korean War or even WWII.

This concerns me greatly. Those are probably the same cabbies who say, "my car is yellow so you should be able to see me coming and get out of the way."

Read the title as taxi cabs. Slightly let down. It'd be something to see some 1930-ish taxis rolling around in service.

Well you can always check out the checker cab parked out front of Caliente Cab in the West Village. Wouldn't recommend the food there, though.

That's a Studebaker and it's not even a sedan, so I guess you get to ride shotgun on every trip. But there are still Checkers out there if you look hard enough.

50K licensed hack drivers? There are about 13K yellow cabs, right? So 3 per cab? Maybe that 50K includes outer borough cabs? And as far as 80 y.o. cabbies, they, like truck and bus drivers should be retested -road, written and visual acuity-regularly. Really, everyone should.

13,437 medallions and 50K drivers across all 5 boroughs according to the 2014 NYC Taxicab Fact Book. And yeah, retesting would probably be a good idea.
